Diabetes Wellness Sweden's research strategy is to fund projects that focus on:
  • Prevention, complications and treatment of diabetes
  • Causes of diabetes
  • Cures for diabetes

Priority is given to funding research that has a strong impact on both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and projects that can ultimately benefit people with diabetes. This reflects the wishes of our donors and is the purpose of the Foundation. The ultimate goal is to find a working cure for people with diabetes.

Two types of research grants

The Foundation's research grants are divided into two types

  • Project Grant is a grant of up to SEK 1 million per year for up to 2 years. The purpose is to fund all or most of a research project.
  • Innovation in Diabetes Research Grants is a one-year grant of up to SEK 200,000 for researchers at the beginning of their research careers who wish to start smaller research projects.

Each year, the Foundation invites researchers to apply for a research grant, which is then evaluated by the Advisory Committee and external experts. This results in a list of recommendations to the Board of Trustees, who then decide which projects to fund.
